Reverend Dr. Renita Marie Green is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has served in pastoral ministry since 2001.

While serving her previous congregation in Southern Missouri, Rev. Green initiated and led the renovation and preservation of the then 148 year old historic church building and renovation of the parsonage. Structural, electrical, plumbing and aesthetic work was completed by professional volunteers and donated funds. Additionally, a new mural was commissioned to replace the deteriating sixty year old mural that was prominently displayed in the sanctuary. After meeting with leaders and youth of the congregation, local artist Malcolm McRae designed a vibrant artistic depiction of the history of the church. The $5000 mural was made possible by community contributions.

As a first-generation, non-traditional, adult student, Rev. Green earned her BS in Organization Studies from Saint Louis University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006. In 2014 she graduated the historic Payne Theological Seminary earning a Master’s of Divinity and in 2023 Rev. Green earned her Doctorate of Ministry in Religious, Political, and Social Ethics, also from Payne. In 2021 she had the honor of being selected as one of ten inargural John R Lewis Fellows with the Faith and Politics Institute .

Rev. Green serves as Interfaith Chaplain/Associate Director of Religious Diversity and Ecumenical Ministry in the office of Campus Ministry at the University of Dayton. In this role Rev. Green provides pastoral care for students, faculty and staff; leads the Protestant ministry; advises the relgious student organizations; provides administrative support to all multifaith groups and spiritual support to students; provides leadership to the Hindu ministry; and speaks to groups on topics related to anti-racism, cultural competency and religious diversity.

Dr. Green is an adjunct faculty member teaching courses in Resistance Theology such as: “The Theology of Ferguson: Discovering God in the Uprising”, “Protest Figures in the Bible” and “The Theology of Resistance” and “Theology at Work.” She teaches Church History in the Turner Theological Seminary’s Theological Certificate program and a pedogogy course for Bible teachers at Payne Theological Seminary.

As a believer in the Beloved Community, Pastor Renita has founded need-based community programs such as Kidz Klub, a summer camp community co-op for children and youth and The People’s Shelter, a community co-op serving unsheltered persons in Southeast Missouri. She has led advocacy in local policy changes, local city government changes in practice, the removal of a confederate monument and contributed to advocacy in measures to reform policing polocies and practices. Additionally, she created and led Community Conversations about Racism and Justice, Practicing AntiRacism as a Spiritual Discipline, and Monday Mourning, calling community faith leaders into the work of advocacy and justice.

Reverend Green’s areas of expertise include faith and politics, faith and social justice, prophetic preaching, and faith and advocacy. Additionally, she has presented as a panelist on local, national and international platforms and has received several awards and recognitions for humanitarian work and anti-racist advocacy.

She is the mother of Chrissi Nichole Jackson, Darren Ken Jackson, II (Danielle) and Tye Lamkin and the gramma of Sol Re Jackson and Ayla Marie-Degannes Jackson. Her hobby is trying out new adventures. Hiking, kayaking and improv acting are her most recent favorites.
